{DIY} Decorating switch plates with washi tapes

I bought a bunch of washi tapes when I was in Taiwan.  First project is to update our switch plates.  I thought about replacing our switch plates with something more stylish, but nice-looking switch plates are expensive.  I don’t feel like spending almost $20 on a single switch plate.  With these cute washi tapes, I am able to update our switch plates with a fraction of the cost.  I’m very happy with the result.  I’m going to update all of our switch plates and outlet plates with this simple technique!

  • washi tapes (you can find some cute washi tapes here)
  • scissors
  • switch plates
  • Tailor’s awl or anything that can punch open a hole (a pen or a pencil)

  1. Decide on a design pattern for the switch plate.
  2. Apply washi tapes to the switch plate.
  3. If covering the switch plate entirely, punch open the screw holes.
  4. Viola! It’s all done. Now, reinstall the switch plate to your wall switch.  Enjoy the brand new look!
